Major Tool and Machine Manufacturing Day

Major Tool and Machine Manufacturing Day
Major Tool and Machine is a valued, long-time partner of Area 31 Career Center manufacturing programs. The company has been a part of the Indianapolis area since 1946, and recently expanded by partnering with Precinmac, which has eight divisions across the US and Canada. With growth comes the need to attract and develop skilled employees. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, there is expected to be a 10.32% growth in machinist jobs in Indiana. To help develop a pipeline for future employees in the manufacturing fields, Major Tool and Machine hosted a Manufacturing Day event, which spanned two days and welcomed 515 high school students who were enrolled in manufacturing-related programs. This annual event featured a career fair with roughly twenty partners from diverse industry sectors and higher education institutions. This opportunity to increase awareness of trade jobs included welding, precision machining, industrial maintenance, engineering, robotics, and assembly.

In addition to networking with business and post-secondary partners, attendees enjoyed an extensive tour of Major Tool's 600K square-foot campus that showcase ongoing projects and the current facility expansion. Demonstrations in welding and precision machining were also offered during the event. Students from Area 31 Career Center’s Welding, Integrated Mechanics, and Precision Machining programs participated in the experience this year learning about employment opportunities in the competitive field of manufacturing.
