Cybersecurity Students Participate in Women IN Tech Symposium

Area 31 Cybersecurity students recently attended the second annual Women IN Tech Week Symposium and Showcase, hosted by Vincennes University at the Aviation Technology Center on September 17. Centered around the theme “Tech for All: Innovate Together,” the event celebrated the power of diversity and collaboration in shaping the future of technology. Students engaged with tech leaders from across Indiana who shared their personal stories of perseverance and success in a traditionally male-dominated field. Participants took part in hands-on sessions such as “Digital Detective: Cracking the Code,” a cybersecurity challenge that encouraged problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork—skills essential for the next generation of technology professionals.

Keynote speaker Tiffany Trusty, Director of Digital Product Management at Eli Lilly and Company, inspired students with her story of career growth and advocacy for inclusion in technology. Additional sessions led by Vincennes University female tech leaders—including Interim Provost Jaci Lee Lederman and other mentors— provided valuable opportunities for students to connect, ask questions, and envision themselves in a variety of technology careers. The event highlighted the importance of representation and community, reinforcing the message that innovation thrives when everyone has a seat at the table.
