Work-Based Learning Spotlight: Devon Vaden

Work-Based Learning Spotlight: Devon Vaden

Ben Davis High School senior Devon Vaden is gaining real-world experience this year through his Work-Based Learning (WBL) placement at Heartland Food Products Group, where he serves as an Asset Care Intern.

In this role, Devon works alongside a senior maintenance technician, learning hands-on skills that directly connect to his classroom learning. His experience includes reading schematic diagrams, servicing production equipment, and performing preventive maintenance to improve production efficiency—skills vital in today’s advanced manufacturing industry.

At school, Devon is enrolled in the Integrated Mechanics program, where he is also earning dual credit through Vincennes University in CIMT 140: Mechanical Drives. Balancing both classroom and workplace learning, Devon is building a strong foundation for his future career.

Looking ahead, Devon plans to continue his education at Vincennes University, where he is considering majoring in Advanced Manufacturing after his graduation in May.

Devon’s dedication and drive demonstrate the power of Work-Based Learning to connect students with meaningful career pathways while preparing them for success beyond high school.
