Year 2--Construction Trades II

Course Title: Construction Trades II

Semesters Offered: 2 semesters

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Construction Trades I

Eligible Grade Levels: 12th

Dual Credits: Ivy Tech - 6 credits

Course Competencies and Requirements

  • Learn construction techniques, tools, and processes from the foundation up
  • For those students interested in a career in the construction industry: carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, concrete, painting, roofing, and drywall
  • Emphasis is placed on instruction and practice
  • Build a new home or renovate an existing building
  • Work in the heat and cold and everything in between; will need coveralls and winter clothing
  • Works boots and hand tools will be provided by the student. Boots are an OSHA requirement

Academic Standards for Success

  • Read and comprehend science and technical texts within a range of complexity appropriate for grades 11-CCR independently and proficiently.
  • Solve problems based on understanding the properties of shapes, such as triangles and circles, and the spatial relationships between angles and lines.
  • Solve abstract and practical problems by applying and adapting a variety of strategies. Monitor progress and evaluate answers in terms of questions asked.
  • Connect ideas from different areas of mathematics (particularly geometry and algebra) to state or solve abstract or applied problems.
