Course Title: Emergency Medical Services

Course Instructor: Melissa Lane

Number of Credits: 3 each Semester

Semesters Offered: 2-Semester Program

Prerequisites: Algebra 1 and English 10

Eligible Grade Levels: 12th

Dual Credits: Ivy Tech Community College – 7.5 credits

Note: Students must be 18 years of age prior to completion of clinical experiences required for certification as an EMT.

Course Competencies and Requirements

  • Life and death situations, spontaneous decision making, stepping stone to advanced medical positions
  • Prepare for further study for an associate degree in Emergency Medical Services
  • Learn to recognize a patient’s condition: the seriousness, use appropriate emergency care techniques, equipment to stabilize the patient
  • Certifications include American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card or American Red Cross (ARC) Professional Rescuer CPR card
  • Variety of documented clinical experiences, some to be completed on student’s own time (evenings and weekends)
  • Limited criminal history check and immunization records required
  • Required uniform will cost approximately $75
  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician NREMT Certification upon completion of standards and test

  •  Use vocabulary skills, context, roots, prefixes and suffixes to determine the meaning of words.
  • Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking measurements, or performing technical tasks; analyze the specific results based on explanations in the text.
  • Solve problems using algebraic expressions and symbols to represent relationships, patterns and functions of different types.
