Fire and Rescue (Off-Site)

NOTE: Classes  are at the ESEC (Emergency Service Education Center) at 400 North High School Road; (Students must provide their own transportation to ESEC!)

Course Title: Fire And Rescue I

Program Coordinator: Brandon Wood

Number of Credits: 3 per semester

Semesters Offered: 2 semesters

Prerequisites: Algebra 1 and English 10

Eligible Grade Levels: 11th & 12th

Dual Credits: Ivy Tech Community College – 12 Credits

Second year students should enroll in the Emergency Medical Services program. This will give students the opportunity to earn an additional 12 college credits toward a fire science associate degree.

Course Competencies and Requirements

  • Adrenaline rush, burning buildings, blazing fires and YOU!
  • Prepare for entry-level positions or further study in fire service
  • Learn and understand Fire Behavior / Concepts of Safety Standards
  • Study fire protection systems, fire prevention and safety education, building construction and floor plans, fire, safety and construction codes
  • Focus on Fire Service Accreditation Service (IFSAS) curriculum prepares students for FireFighter I & II certifications exams
  • Learn the importance of on-scene and on-the-job firefighter health, safety and fitness
  • Participates in daily physical fitness including but not limited to running, push-ups, sit-ups, etc.
  • Earn credits toward an associate degree program in Fire Science
  • Uniform required: shirts and safety glasses; approximately $190
  • Sports physical is required

Dual credit offerings are subject to change at the discretion of postsecondary partners, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, The Indiana Department of Education, or the Indiana Office of Career and Technical Education.
